Frequently Asked Questions, Animal Quarantine Department (FAQs)










1. How can I import animals e.g dogs into Nigeria?
    Ans:
  • Import permit form is obtained from Chief Veterinary Officer's (CVO's) office.
  • The form is filled by the authorized veterinarian of the importing country
  • The duly filled form is returned to the CVO with the entire relevant requirement
  • The CVO issues the import permit and notify NAQS.

2. Who issues the Import/Export Certificate?
    Ans: Chief Veterinary Officer
3. What is the validity of the Import/Export Permit?
    Ans: One month
4. What are your Export Inspection Procedures?
    Ans
  • Inspection of the exportation health certificate
  • Inspection of physical appearance of the animal
  • Inspection of the quantity to see if it the same animal that came with the import certificate.
5. What are your Import Inspection Procedures?
    Ans:
  • Inspection of the import health certificate.
  • Inspection of the quantity to see if it the animal that came with the export.
  • Inspection of physical appearance of the animal
  • Large animal imported are quarantine before being release into the nation herd.
